#30DaysOfGeek Day 7: Preferred smartphone platform

Welcome to day 7 of #30DaysOfGeek. I’m posting after noon! I’ve been out of the office all morning though, that is my excuse.

So what’s the topic for day 7? “Preferred smartphone platform. And which do you use?”

Preferred? Couldn’t give a shit. Something which works and is usable and comes with a provider who isn’t totally lame.

What do I use? I have an iPhone 4. I had an iPhone 3 but it got wet so I had to upgrade. I went with the iPhone 4 because I know how to use it and it works for me.

An iPhone may not be for everyone, some prefer android or other things. I really couldn’t care less ;) It’s not about the technology, it’s about the user experience.

I think many techie people forget about the end user and get caught up in the politics or nerdiness of it.

“OMG WTF U DONT USE LINUX, WHY YOU H8 ME????//// U FAILLLLLZZLZL LOOLOLOLOL!!!!!!11111″

That’s a real shame.

See you tomorrow!

#30DaysOfGeek Day 6: Primary geek fuel

It’s day 6 of #30DaysOfGeek, and I haven’t missed any yet! :)

Today’s epic topic: Primary geek fuel (snacks/drinks). What is it that sustains your geekiness?

Well. If it’s fruit, vegetable or white meat I’ll eat it. Yes, that includes humans. I don’t snack, and I drink water and shitloads of Sprite Zero and Diet Coke.

So Sprite Zero, Diet Coke and my stomach digesting itself from hunger is what sustains me. I’m not sure it fuels my geek – I get that from people and generally geeking out, but it keeps me alive to do it.

I do enjoy making lots of food for others though. I thrive and grow when hugged a lot, even IRC hugs keep me going. ^_^

#30DaysOfGeek Day 5: Quick nifty hacks you’re proud of

I’ve made it to day 5 of #30DaysOfGeek.

Quick nifty hacks I’m proud of? Umm, ok. o_O

Did you know, if you hit the windows key and the D key at the same time then everything minimises? And you can do the same with the windows key and the M key at the same time!

Or howabout, if you hit alt+0172 you get ¬. Then you can do the dodgy: ¬_¬

Hacks? I’m not a hacker, I’m a good girl. I could probably hack up some CSS to deal with IE6 if I had to maybe…

I’ve really let the side down today.

#30DaysOfGeek Day 4: Greatest application written to date

So here we are. Day 4 of #30DaysOfGeek.

Today: The greatest application written to date. By who? By me or by someone else? Written up until this point, or written to date-stamp things? Maybe written to take out to a dinner and movie?

What if you’re a geek who doesn’t write applications? I don’t write applications. The geekiest thing I would probably write is a webpage and I’m not sure you can classify that as an application. Even then – it’s no longer in my job description. If I was going to write anything it’d be a story for literotica.

Well, hangonaminute, I’m sitting here typing into WordPress. I did do some coding in here recently. And over on Bunny Abandonware. So maybe it’s not an application, but I did play with some smurf behind the scenes.

So let’s talk about other applications. The greatest application ever written to date (and I’d totally date it) is Diablo 2. Followed closely by Warcraft 2 (and 3 was pretty good too!) If you beg to differ then you’re a white pants wearing loser and you should set yourself on fire and go jump off a cliff.

Love you, bye. x

#30DaysOfGeek Day 3: What does your day job involve?

It’s day 3 of #30DaysOfGeek. Today we go into what my day job involves…

The question should be “what doesn’t your day job involve?”

I … look after people, fix problems, write long documents, manage projects, perve at the business analyst, talk crap with colleagues, preach about web standards, give feedback on anything and everything, facilitate meetings, attend meetings, plan meetings, document meetings and try to avoid meetings, manage staff, tweet, fill in spreadsheets, read lots of gaming news, play with Google Analytics, run social media things, talk about my weekend, send lots of work and non-work related emails, media monitor for interesting things, have spontaneous morning and afternoon teas, perve some more at the business analyst.

That’s basically what I do. It’s quite a lot when you try to cram it into 40 hours. ;)

See you tomorrow!

#30DaysOfGeek Day 2: Preferred programming language?

Ok, we’re onto Day 2 of #30DaysOfGeek!

What is my preferred programming language? Man… that’s totally too geeky. Can I say HTML and all that goes with it like XHTML, XSLT, CSS etc?

But if I had , it’s HTML. Hands down. It’s simple, straightforward, inter-operable and has standards attached to it. Plus the internet makes me hot and sweaty…

If you don’t accept HTML then I’ll go for PHP or mSL.

Cheerio. Big fat geeks :p See you tomorrow for more geeky goodness.

#30DaysOfGeek Day 1: Why do you consider yourself a geek?

It’s Day 1 of #30DaysOfGeek!

There are a few key things which put me into geek status:

  • I refuse to be a nerd. Nerds are fugly
  • I’m fluent in Omnispeak and other random languages
  • I still hang out on IRC, with lots of people who still also hang out on IRC, and we’ve been there since the 1900s…
  • I’ve been known to own a few bots over there years ¬_¬
  • I get upset when my laptop accidentally gets unplugged and then shuts itself down (uptime counter fail)
  • I think Bill Gates is sexy
  • And last but not least, along with most of you geeks out there: I haven’t had a really real girlfriend.

What promotes me from nerd to geek? I’ve had sex before. More than once.

Charlotte’s awesome tea party

Wow, this was fun. I spent the weekend in Rotorua, then came home to sunshine and an epic tea party with Charlotte.

And Barbie, Ashely, Flora, Dog-dog, Jemima and special guest Ken. Who was a complete gentleman might I add ;)

Here is a picture of the guests, minus me as I’m behind the camera…
