Oh My Lord, what a huge fecking question this is…

What would I have done differently?  I’m not on my fecken deathbed, so I have no clue what I would have done differently.

I think any changes would be career related.  Here are a few ideas:

  1. Not studied IT, actually done something bankable like nursing, medicine, builder etc.  A trade!
  2. Not wasted time learning programming, and stuck with project management plus analysis and design
  3. Become a project manager or stayed as a Business Analyst and not moved from technical into management

I think number 3 is probably the most important one.

White Apple MacBookHow many computers lying around the house?  I don’t really leave them lying!  What have we got though?

  • MacBook – he’s right here on the table
  • HP – he’s under some dude’s desk somewhere waiting for me to pick him up
  • Toshiba – in the closet keeping the shelf busy
  • Random old P3 – gathering dust in the garage

That’s all I have, 3 laptops.

I don’t know what to say about this one.  Having worked for them I’ll tell you that they suck balls.

But I do love my iPhone and my iPod.  I really do.

But then again, I’m lucky enough to have lived in New Zealand and had nothing go wrong with them.  If you live here and something goes wrong – you’re fucked.  There are no Apple stores for you to visit.  You have to visit Magnum Mac or some other useless place and get charged!  Apple stores wouldn’t charge you!

So, foe.  But thanks for the iPhone fuckers!  No wait, not thank you, I paid for the damn thing!

Windows Open Source logoOpen source vs. proprietary software, how do I feel about it?

Firstly, let’s clarify that software includes games and commercial software.

I think both are good. Why would we want everything to be free? How would the economy work? We will have all our coders on welfare working on open source code! If you have a great product and you invest in it then why the hell shouldn’t you benefit from it?

Commercially it makes sense. You’ll find that most organisations need to have companies to hold accountable for support and problems with software.

Open source would work if there was someone supporting them too I guess.

Either way. We need to have competition and we need companies making money and paying tax. So both aregood and both are necessary.

Worst: Righteous hippies. There are lots of them in IT. And people who should know about the benefits of accessibility and standards and ignore them!
